Your sudden departure filled me with sadness. I remember seeing you 13 or 14 months ago after so long. My son and I spent the afternoon with you talking on the rooftop. You opened your home to me and treated us all, her friends, as your children. You always had time to talk with is, your "fellow colleagues" as you called us. I am grateful to have seen you again after so long and will not forget that afternoon. May God receive your soul and keep your memories fresh in the minds of all who knew you. Adieu daddy Aroyewun!

May Allah Subhana wa tahala forgive the sins of Alhaji Alade Aroyewun, pardon his shortcomings and admit him into aljannat firdaus. He was the pillar and the central focus of the entire Aroyweun and Salam family. A great man who wove and anchored his entire maternal and paternal families together into one. A rare gem like none. Today, I reflect and reminisce on out activities together. I was 11 years old and although, I did many entrance examinations into High schools, none really admitted as I performed poorly. It was him who told my grandmother that Mukail Aroyehun, his second cousin is now the Principal of Ansar-ud-deen College Offa. That is how he I started high school. He left his work at Federal Mortgage Bank and took me to Federal School of Arts and Science to seek admission for me after my School cert performance was not good enough to admit me into a university. Unlike my Dad, he never lost hope in me and was never harsh to me. Just last November, when my Son Shakirudeen wanted to marry, there was no one else for me to stand-in. He accepted the family of the bride into his home and stood for my family. And on wedding day, he asked for the wife on behalf of Shakirudeen with an uncommon dignity. His entire family, children and grandchildren from the US, from the UK came for the wedding at cost of millions of Naira. Can one ask for anything more from a grandfather? Ever with a listening ear, offering to help wherever and whenever possible. Alhaji Aroyewun never gives up on anyone of us. Despite what my brother Shola has done in the past, he took him close to himself and poured his love on him. I can go on to my sisters, on and on. One other thing, I will like to mention is that my grandmother loves him dearly and he received love back from almost all of us. The entire family respected him and accepted him as the Patriarch of the family. He will so much be missed. As time goes on, one may still cry again as I am doing now.

My husband was a wonderful man. I'm not sure I can really express just how much I will miss him. Not only was he a wonderful, loving and ever supportive husband, he was also an awesome father, grandfather, best friend, colleague and so much more. His sudden death was a total shock to me. He was a caring husband who will forever be remembered for his peaceful lifestyle. Alade’s ability to make everyone feel comfortable, secure and loved were his greatest strengths. It has been nearly 45 years since we were first married and I look back over those years with so much happiness. Alade was always such a gentleman, well-mannered and polite. He never raised his voice at me or the children, constantly exercising peace and calm in every situation. He was always quick with a witty remark to make everyone across the room laugh. His joviality and good nature attracted people the moment he walked into a room, and no one could forget his raucous and contagious laugh. Born and bred in Lagos Island, Alade always had a passion for Lagos culture. I remember the first time he took me dancing. He was proud and showed me off to the world with a constant sense of adoration, beaming with smiles. He was my soul mate and my inspiration, my support, my rock that helped me through thick and thin. Alade supported and loved everyone equally and was always there to help navigate through life’s challenges. Alade was a hardworking and giving man. Not only was he committed to work but was also committed to giving back to the community. Chief Security Chairman we jokingly teased him ever conscious of the fact he took community policing seriously. When Alade wasn't at work, he was attending one of Eko Club meetings, Methodist Boys High School Alumni, Mosque sessions, Family meetings or fundraising activities. He always encouraged us be involved in life; he brought out the best in us all. He would always say to the children, ‘You can’t see people with problems and decide not to help when you can. You must try to do something and make an impact on the needy. We are fortunate and not better than anyone else in the eyes of God." I cherish the years spent with him as a husband and father to his children. I hold dear to my heart the times we prayed together every morning, thanking God for the life we built together. I thank you my dear husband for your love, your care and your support in all ramification. Your departure was peaceful, and I thank God for blessing us with such a gift. We bless God for you, and know you are in heaven now looking down at us with a big smile on your face. I hear your voice instructing “Forge ahead – make the best of life – and I’ll see you soon. We have work to do up here too in preparation.” Goodbye, my dear, sweet and loving husband, God bless you, as I am sure you are with your creator.

Writing this tribute is breaking my heart in a way I have never felt before. Are you really gone Daddy? Why? We were just planning a family trip that was going to be all about you. In your typical nature, you were so cool, calm and collected about it. You said “Tosin, I am keeping well and agile”, then prayed for me like you always do and which was our last conversation... Ha!!! Among other things, you taught me to be untroubled, tolerant and have unwavering trust in God. You almost never saw my wrong, you talked about me so positively that sometimes I wondered: is that me he is describing? You always made me want to be and do better in everyway. I remember the last time we danced, your smiles, me taking pictures of you and how you made the littlest things stimulating. I cannot forget how you were with me through my entire registration process when I was admitted into University of Lagos which involved walking back and forth across considerable distances all because you thought your presence will make my life easier. Your presence made the process easier though some of my classmates called me “Daddy’s baby” or “Omo Daddy” for a while as a result, I did not hesitate to let you drive me to school whenever you offered because I was indeed your “baby” being the last born in the family. You were all about service to others. In recent years we had one or two heated conversations but that was me being defensive. Yet you always ended our conversations with a prayer for me, saying something positive about my person and even dropping an apology. Daddy you were one of a kind and deeply loved. Daddy Daddy!!! I didn't see this coming but I'm grateful to have called you Daddy, grateful for the memories we made and especially grateful for the impact of you made in my life. Between the great memories, the life-long lessons; you were a big-hearted man and simply spectacular. Rest on “My Daddy”, "Daddy Daddy"… Obaoluwatosin.

We love your easy way of looking at life and living in the present. We have never seen you upset with anyone in any gatherings. You were an example of living life and taking it one day at a time. You were disciplined about living a religious and righteous life. You took your faith seriously and lived within the teaching of Allah. Accepting people as they are and not being judgmental. We remember some family gatherings when everyone was talking loudly and arguing, you were always quiet while listening and the voice of reason. You disarm using words softly spoken with smiles. ????Hello everyone, this is a tribute to my grandfather who passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022. Our grandfather was a very nice and jolly man. He was playful and was always willing to help. If I was ever bored, he would always joke with me. He was peaceful and always grateful. I am very thankful for his life. He did many more things for me like teaching me yoruba. He was a great father, husband, and a good friend. He was trustworthy and caring. We thank God that when he died, he died peacefully. I will remember him and all the great things he did and I pray that I will do things that will make him proud. ???????????????? ????????????

IRETOMIDE OLUJOBI signed:
Greetings, audience and relatives and friends and… all. My name is Tomide Olujobi and would like to thank everyone for reading my little speech. Be young in spirit and wise in years. I would like to start off with a quick prayer today. So before we start, I pray (God, Son, and Holy Spirit) for blessings upon each and very one of us and I ask for all of us to be able to live long lives which will leave positive marks on the world to show all your glory and love in Jesus’ mighty name. Kí Olúwa wà thanks p??lú r?. And we say “Amin”! With that, let’s jump right in. I want to acknowledge 2 things. First, we all know that humans go through a certain sequence in life. No matter how different we are, we always have gone through similar things. We have all been born into the world, raised up by our parents(God bless them) and have witnessed love. We have all grown, eaten, played and worked. We’ve smiled and frowned, laughed and cried, been proud and disappointed, and been loved and rejected. It’s just how life is. The second thing I want to acknowledge is that we have a purpose. The saying “Time flies” is no joke o! Time literally is limited and we need to remember that. Psalm 90:12 says “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom”. And to that, we say “Amen”. My grandfather, Muyideen Alade Oladimeji Aroyewun, was a man who realized these things. And although he wasn’t Elon Musk or King Sunny Ade, he still did things that will forever be remembered. For some of us, he was a great friend whom we had met at school. For others like me, he was a close relative who would make us feel welcome when visiting him and his wife (Our grandma). No matter how we were related to him, Muyideen Aroyewun always was a nice gentleman. He moved houses just to make sure his father’s property was ok. He cheered us up when we were feeling down. He laughed, smiled, was disappointed sometimes, and other bad feelings(but we are not to focus on that). What we’re focusing is he didn’t just think that he had life to live and that’s it. He actually lived it. He “lived the life”! I’m not saying that we shouldn’t sometimes feel sad for his passing. I DEFINITELY mourned when I heard the news. What I’m saying is we should also feel happy because he lived a nice 79 years of his life and he’s now with the Lord, praising alongside the angels forevermore. Hallelujah! May he rest in peace having fulfilled his purpose here on Earth and may we follow his example to live life to its fullest in the mighty name of Jesus. And one last time, we say “Amen”. Peace be with you.

Tribute to Grandpa Aroyewun To us in the Solana/Olulana Family, Grandpa Aroyewun was a great man. He was a man that exuded love; a man that saw every occasion as an opportunity to show his love. Everyone that we interacted formally and even informally with him has remained indelible with us. From the very first occasion that he came on behalf of his son, Ayo, to our family house to introduce the Aroyewuns to us to the last time, just last month, that we visited him in his house, Grandpa Aroyewun exuded a joy and happiness that expressed his love. He always had something good to cheer you up and make you remember the last visit. We already miss him so much. What is sad is that one never realized that this relationship was going to become limited to these sweet memories so soon. I can still recall his demonstration of love to us when our matriarch left us. We still cherish his and his amiable wife’s show of solidarity demonstrated in the gifts of household items that keep reminding us of him. Grandma and all our in-laws, please be encouraged by his great examples and legacy. Grandpa, your memories will continue to challenge us to live a life of joy and happiness. Goodnight Baba Ayo.... I met Late Alhaji Muyideen Alade Aroyewun, whom I fondly called 'Baba Ayo', through his amiable wife, Mrs Elizabeth Kehinde Aroyewun, during our days at Lagos State School of Nursing and Midwife where we were both lecturers in 1978. Baba Ayo took me as as his younger sister from the get go and he played a prominent role in seeing to it that I got married to my then fiancee, and now husband, Adekunle Afun. Baba Ayo was an embodiment of positive characters - very compassionate and good communication skills. His communication skills were essential to his good accounting and managerial persona. He had the ability to listen - he listened to his caucus in meetings, listened to his adversaries, colleagues and the managers. As an accountant of repute, he took in much information, analysed and synthentised it and exercised good judgment to provide advices to his Organizations (NEPA, Federal Mortgage Bank, and Lagos State Government, as an External Auditor). One of his many qualities was his emotional response whenever he perceived problems and he genuinely wanted to help resolve the problem, while at work and within the family setting. Now, it is finished. No more accounting activities, no more chieftaincy role as Baba Adinni, no more Olori Ebi role as well. With this passing, Baba Ayo is leaving behind a legacy of kindness, compassion and service to humanity. The world is a sojourn place and not a permanent residence. Heaven is now his new abode. My condolences once again to his entire family(wife, children, grandchildren, Rest in perfect peace Baba Ayo. Adebola Afun, Mrs For The Afun FAmily.

Tribute to my father I don’t think it has really hit home that you are gone. Not really. We spoke a couple of days before you passed. I still called in the wee hours of that morning to speak with you and mummy. Prepped with my usual opening line that I could call you anytime, and you could make up for your sleep after we’d spoken. We didn’t get to banter one last time. Thank you, daddy, for being my father. Thinking “What will daddy do in this situation?” has helped me manage a difficult person and navigate difficult situations, many a time. You could douse the worst of tensions and I always admired that about you. The prayers. O the prayers! Always specific and intentional. Many of the prayers you said for my siblings and I, I find myself saying for my sons with such consistence and fevour. I truly now understand and appreciate those prayers. While you raised us to balance aspiration and contentment, you taught me one special lesson in gratitude which I can never forget. It was one of the few times, if not the only time you spoke to me harshly. I had cried during family prayer and prayed very stiltedly because I hadn’t passed an exam which I had put so much effort into preparing for. It was one of the very, (I do not exaggerate), very few times I had seen you genuinely upset. You spoke like I’d embarrassed you before God. You asked that I start to pray in thanksgiving, and demanded I genuinely sound thankful while at it. You were so upset. Considering you hardly ever got angry, I didn’t know what else to do but to obey. I prayed in thanks giving. ????. Then you went on to apologize to God on my behalf. I still draw from that lesson to be genuinely thankful even when things are not working out. This has been instrumental to my faith-walk. Speaking of faith, the walk and the work. Ours was a unique household. Thank you, daddy, for the way you ran your family. Very few understand, even fewer have had the privilege of what you uniquely permitted and nurtured in our family. Another life lesson in itself. E seun sir. I recently told you I was making some bold decisions, was stressed out about it, but was not ready to divulge. Ha!!! Trust you! Daddy-prayer mode activated!!! Your prayers daddy, -won ki mi laya!! They emboldened me. E seun sir. Writing this is hard. It really is. You know I don’t like to get emotional and it is at those times you’d give me space, not press for information, sit in silence with me, then encourage me with prayer. If I could have on last conversation with you daddy, I would sit with you in silence, then wait for the prayers. Confident they’d come. The silence I now have, the prayers you have given me so many. What more to ask for than to say “Thank you God”, and to be genuinely thankful. Daddy, mo gboro. (Daddy, I listened. I obeyed the instruction). I am thankful. But please permit me to be thankful through the tears. Sun re o!!! Daddy! Sun re o!!! Daddy-daddy! My Papa-lo!!!!! I remain, Your Morayooluwa!!!

For as long as we can remember Uncle has always been in our lives as children in Liverpool, to Satellite Town and now as adults. He was our mum’s trusted aburo whose help we could rely on all the time. Uncle’s words of wisdom doused in his ever present humour made life seem so easy, he often lifted the weight of the most difficult tasks and made for fulfillment with candidacy. In the absence of our parents, we simply have to say the word and Uncle will be there. His practical advice, words of encouragement and basically filling in some of the gaps our mum left will be sorely missed. There are so many fond memories of being an adult, visiting our parents and meeting both Uncle Alade and Aunty Kenny there. The conversations were always so uplifting, whether the topics were serious or frivolous, simply listening in and/or partaking in the discussions was so enjoyable. The Aunty/Uncle combination was always fraught with fun and laughter though serious matters were always given due attention. We’ll miss Uncle’s presence and our conversations, but we take solace knowing that he’s with Allah, has lived a great life and leaves great legacies. Our hearts go out especially to Aunty Kenny (‘Mama Ayo’), Tomiwa, Gbenga, Morayo and Tosin and pray that God comforts you and turns your sorrow to smiles as you remember the great man Uncle was, his caring nature, his philanthropy, his humour, his candidacy and unwavering faith. Uncle Alade Aroyewun was not just an uncle to me but a senior professional colleague. Our paths crossed for the first time 10 years ago when I needed a sponsor for my ICAN induction attestation. He gave me more support than I needed and I remember his exact words that day; “I am happy doing this for you; there’s nothing I am doing with all of these now that I’m old. I hope you children will continue from where we stopped”. Getting one of ICAN’s first 5000 members as a sponsor “no be beans”. I would have loved that you were around to attend my fellowship induction this year. Your act of benevolence is indeed outstanding. On several occasions you reached out to me in the process of executing support to other people. I still remember our last conversations; it was still about helping people. You have played your part very well in the affairs of men in this world. You have carved your name on stones and hearts. Memoirs of you will never be forgotten. I pray that Almighty Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala grant you Aljana Firdaus and keep the family you left behind safe from evil. Your Nephew, Dapo Aroyewun

The news of your demise was a rude shock and a reminder that we are only transient beings on this earth. My main regret is that I never called to check up on you as much as I should have and now I find myself writing this tribute to say sweet nonsense that I should have said while you were alive. What a life!! It was an honour knowing you. Thank you for opening your home and treating me like one of your children. I enjoyed the many conversations we had anytime I visited Satellite Town. I will remember your non-judgmental nature and at the same time being brutally honest without making people feeling belittled or being patronized. You were very simple and opened minded and the way you practiced your belief would put a lot of so called religious people to shame. I believe you are in a better place and you will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace Daddy Alade Aroyewun.

From the very day that I met you, you were very kind and welcoming. It was always a pleasure to visit or phone you, as I'd expect to hear your nickname for me "Charlie Man".From secondary school, university, and when I started working, we always had very deep conversations. I remember when I told you that I was going to marry a "Yoruba girl" and you laughed and told me that you had caught me. You then supported our family throughout the introduction and wedding process. Thanks for looking beyond age, tribal, and religious divides, and seeing everyone as human. You'd certainly be missed. God continue to bless your family. We'd continue to make you proud.
